Maple - there are many members to this family, all known as "Acer ...", eg Acer Saccharum, the Maple used for Maple Syrup and Maple Sugar. Other varieties include Red Maple, Silver Maple and Norwegian Maple. The varieties Jane prefers offer a tough, close even-grained timber, in a light blonde colour. The other wood in the photos below is Jarrah.
